In a shocking turn of events, a Chelsea fan has expressed his deep surprise after suffering a stabbing incident in Naples just before the much-anticipated Champions League match against Napoli.
Marcus, a 22-year-old supporter who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing experience when he and a group of friends were confronted by a group of Napoli ultras—known for their passionate and sometimes violent support of their team—in a poorly lit area of the city.
Describing the moment, Marcus shared, "We turned a corner; it wasn't precisely an alleyway, but with no lights around, it certainly felt like one. Suddenly, we found ourselves facing about 20 or 30 individuals dressed entirely in black. The moment we locked eyes, some in our group recognized the danger and quickly made a run for it."
He continued, "It was indeed a shocking experience. Everyone was visibly shaken when we eventually encountered the police. I was wearing shorts that ended up soaked in blood, with it streaming down my leg. We believe the weapon used was either a screwdriver or possibly a Stanley blade. It was one of those two."
Interestingly, Marcus noted that he didn't initially feel the pain until he started to escape from the scene. "My left cheek felt unusually heavy, and the moment I touched it, my hand came away covered in blood," he recalled.
In response to this alarming incident, Chelsea Football Club swiftly took to social media to warn their supporters about potential dangers in Naples, advising them to remain cautious while out in public spaces.
In an official statement, the club acknowledged the incident that transpired on Tuesday evening, informing fans that two individuals were receiving medical care for injuries that, thankfully, were not life-threatening. They urged all supporters to exercise heightened vigilance during their time in the city, reiterating the importance of adhering to safety advice provided ahead of such matches.
Following treatment at the hospital between 11 PM and 4 AM local time, Marcus reported the attack to authorities on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the severity of the situation, he remains determined to attend the match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, although he plans to depart Naples the next day to continue his travels in Rome.
Meanwhile, another injured fan suffered a different kind of assault, reportedly being punched and kicked during the chaos. This incident raises questions about safety measures at sporting events and the responsibilities of clubs and governing bodies like UEFA in ensuring the well-being of fans. What do you think?
